Science

Science is an adventure of discovery. At Easington Academy students develop their own hypothesises, investigate their opinions in practical work and construct their own conclusions based on their own data. Scientific enquiry is at the heart of every lesson. Lessons are never dull, how could they be? When we consider the complexity of the human body and how it is so perfectly evolved or how the Universe originated.

Students love science as they are actively involved with their own learning. It’s not about learning facts but the journey we take to discover these. Some students will leave Easington Academy with the desire to be the next generation of engineers, doctors or research scientists. But more importantly, all students will have the skills they need to solve problems using a scientific approach and have the curiosity to ask questions about the Universe around them.

We prepare our students for GCSE science by teaching the fundamentals of science from Year 7 and revisiting them throughout Year 8 building on these solid foundations. By the end of Year 7 and 8 they should have all of the tools to be successful at GCSE.

I enjoy Science because it increases your knowledge and allows your curiosity to expand.

Recent projects

At Easington Academy we believe that practical work is at the heart of learning. We run a regular science club with Year 7 and 8 students to look at projects on areas of science that they are curious about. In Year 9, a group of students are taken to the annual Durham University Science Festival which enables them to explore how science is continued at university. We have also been taking part in regular STEM projects over the past two years in which students from a range of year groups have participated in challenges to facilitate their curiosity in future careers in science.
