Easington Academy classroom


At Easington Academy we recognise that a student's personal development plays an important role in their ability to learn and achieve. Social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) themes permeate our curriculum, assemblies and our 'thought for the day' programme.

We provide many ways for students to explore and develop morally, socially, spiritually and culturally. The activities listed below are a flavour of the SMSC learning we offer:

Supporting the work of Macmillan nurses by organising coffee mornings
RE and Citizenship GCSE lessons focus on community cohesion, tolerance and the benefits of living in a multi-faith, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society
Art exhibitions
Carousels on the work of the police and other organisations that underpin British society
MFL club and language week assemblies
Visitors from faith communities in RE lessons
Annual visits to places of pilgrimage i.e. Holy Island
Key Stage 3 students visiting WWI battlefields
Writing letters to local councillors to support citizenship campaigns
Our extensive extra-curricular programme

Our  coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support and Bella (a local four-year-old girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma) raised over £300 in October 2017
