Easington wins award for their contribution to sport

We are proud to announce that we've won an award for our Secondary School Contribution to Sport and Physical Activity in the East Durham and Sedgefield area in the Active Durham Sport and Physical Activity Awards ceremony last week.

The event, held at Spennymoor Leisure Centre, was to celebrate and recognise the contribution of individuals, clubs and schools who provide inspiration and encouragement in helping the people of East Durham and Sedgefield start, stay and succeed in sport and physical activity. Our award was recognition for the countless hours dedicated to extra curricular clubs, teams, practices and successes of teams and individuals in a range of sporting activities.

A number of Easington Academy students were also in attendance having been nominated for their outstanding achievements in sport;

  • Year 8 student Bradley Brown was nominated for Young Sports Performance of the Year for his amazing performances in the Kick Boxing World Championships where he won a gold, silver and bronze medal.
  • Year 10 student Liam Potts was nominated for Young Volunteer of the Year for committing hundreds of hours of his own time developing young cricketers at Murton Cricket Club.
  • Year 7 students Regan Bowman and Ellie Wise were representatives of Easington Colliery Primary School where their football teams had national success.

Huge well done to everyone involved.
