GCSE celebrations!

We are celebrating here at Easington Academy after our Year 11 students collected their eagerly-awaited GCSE results this morning.

The results are testament to the hard work and determination that the year group showed, being the first cohort to sit formal exams since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are so proud!

The cohort's hard work truly paid off as they achieved a fantastic set of results, with over 80% of students achieving at least a Grade 4 in English and maths. Almost 60% of the year group achieved at least five Grade 5s or above in their subjects and just under a quarter of all grades awarded were Grade 7 or above. From our cohort of 139 students, an impressive total of 39 Grade 9s were achieved, the highest possible mark, and 93 Grade 8s were given.

Students performed well across the curriculum with strong attainment in a wide range of both traditional GCSE and vocational subjects.

Top performances include:

  • Aimee Kitson who bagged ten Grade 9s and is now off to study biology, chemistry and French at Durham Sixth Form.
  • Luke Baker who achieved six Grade 9s, one Distinction *, one Grade 8 and two Grade 7s. Luke will now study maths, further maths, computer science and physics at ED6.
  • Daniel Scott who was awarded six Grade 9s, one Grade 8, two Grade 7s and a Grade 6 and will go on to study at Durham Sixth Form.
  • Millie Haswell will also be studying at Durham Sixth Form in September after scoring four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, one Distinction and one Grade 7.
  • Dave Grant will be heading to ED6 after finding two Grade 9s, five Grade 8s, one Grade 7 and one Grade 6 on his results sheet.

  • Ella Barrow scored two Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, three Grade 7s and a Grade 6. Ella will now head to Durham Sixth Form.
  • Olivia Haswell was awarded two Grade 9s, a Distinction*, two Grade 8s, four Grade 7s and a Grade 6.

Our Headteacher, Nicola Falconer, said:

“I am so proud of our students and staff who have worked together tirelessly to overcome the challenges of the last two years. Results like these don’t come easily and this success would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of our young people and dedicated team of talented staff.

“I would also like to thank our parents and carers for their support; this really has been very much a team effort.  Good luck, Year 11 with your next steps. Please keep in touch, we’d love to hear what you get up to next. Well done, enjoy celebrating your success.”
