Student council's positive impact

Date Published:
Tuesday 13 April 2021

At Easington Academy, we are committed to continuously improving our school by listening to our students’ views, through our fantastic student council. Here is a summary of the impact the student council has made on our school in the last term:

Students wanted to be reminded on how to use POD in lessons.
Mrs Hickman has reminded staff to show students POD in lessons, which will take place in the next few weeks.

Students wanted a larger variety of fruit to choose from.
There is a wider range of fruit to order on lunchtime order forms.

Students wanted to become more environmentally friendly as a school.
Students entered a competition to create posters to go in each classroom to remind staff to turn off the lights and computers. These will be displayed in each classroom.

Students wanted to become more involved with charity work.
Students voted for a national and regional charity for our school to support. Our national charity is Cancer Research and our regional charity is Children North East.

Students wanted the audiobook morning in tutor to run more smoothly and offer different types of audiobooks.
Students voted for their favourite audiobook genre. Mr Collins is endeavouring to find audiobooks to match these genres and he is putting timings on audiobook slides in tutor.

Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday 20 April where the following topics will be discussed:

  • Covid-safe charity event
  • #WorldReady Lessons
  • Extra-curricular activities
  • Rewards
  • Any other business (any other views or ideas)

Please email the student council with any ideas you have for the topics listed above. You may respond to the email from the student council sent on Monday 12 April. Alternatively, you can speak to your year group representatives.

Your views and ideas are important to us and they could make our school even better for everyone. We look forward to hearing from you!
